POLITICS WITH ESCH: John Edwards

My friend, Esch, will begin his tenure as Eisentower30's Political Correspondent during this 2008 Election Year. I feel as a website that discusses everything you need and some things you don't this definitely qualifies as a necessity. If you aren't into politics at all I suggest you read ahead and learn some things. But if you refuse to please don't let this steer you away from the site. EVERY MONDAY I will post a new article by Politics With Esch. The following does not represent the views of Eisentower30 but rather that of the writer himself.  -Eisentower30

Welcome, everyone, to the first edition of Politics w/ yours truly. Tower and I have decided to add one candidate profile per week until the primaries are finished. As the race moves on toward a very important election in November we will do Monday updates on the big news and moves of the week (or just interesting tidbits). For all of those who think politics is boring and that your vote doesn't matter, I urge you to strongly reconsider. The vote of each individual citizen is what this country is founded upon and the very backbone of our government. That being said I will tell you that I am a Republican, but I will try my best to write objectively. With no further adieu I give you our first candidate profile. Also, be on the lookout for some subliminal messaging along the way.

                                     John Edwards

Political Affiliation: Democrat
Age: 44
Family: Elizabeth Edwards (wife), Emma (9), Jack (7), Cate (25)
Home State: South Carolina
Current Status in primary (D): Third (12%)
Slogan:
Democratization. This word was used by Edwards 648 times (approx.) in the Nevada debate

I chose to write first about Edwards for a couple of reasons:

1. With the South Carolina primary approaching Edwards finds himself in a bad position. Third place finishes in both Iowa and New Hampshire do not bode well for John. Obama and Clinton are now the clear favorites in the democratic race. This being said I give him another three weeks before he drops out of the race.

2. The South Carolina primary is this week, since it is the home state of Edwards it seems only fitting.

General Comments (and opinions)

Let me start by saying I have a great deal of respect for Mr. Edwards because while other politicians say I will do this and I will do that, John has a plan (Read all 80 pages yourself). However, there is one major problem throughout his plans for the U.S. His philosophy is spend, spend, spend. This country is currently facing a national debt of 9 TRILLION dollars ($9,000,000,000,000). The answer to the country's problems at the current time is not spend, spend, spend, but quite possibly should be the opposite (Vote for Mike Huckabee). The next president must cut spending at the governmental level and try to get a handle on this debt before the already embarrassing dollar falls even further behind what can now be called the almighty Euro. Just this week Senator Kerry publicly supported Barack Obama which is a slap in the face to his former running mate. Finally, do we really want a former trial lawyer as our president?

Edwards' Big Issues:

Universal Health Care Plan- Edwards will require by law that each individual have health coverage, including mental health coverage. He will require businesses to completely cover or help with the coverage of their employees. He will expand Medicaid. Families will pay less and get more. HOW? Lets take a look at the future under Edwards plan. Businesses are forced to cover all employees, where do they get the money? I'll tell you where, out of the pocket of the consumer, they have to pay more so they raise the price of the goods that they produce or the service that they offer. Medicaid expands, the government pays more and the national debt skyrockets, as if it hasn't already. How does he plan to pay for all this? Repeal the Bush tax cuts, now the people have less money to spend and the goods that they need are priced through the roof. I have an idea where we can start. Take the money that Edwards is throwing away on this hopeless campaign and insure thousands of people. That would be step one.

Taxes-

“It
ʹs time to end the Presidentʹs war on work. And itʹs time to restore fairness to a tax code that has been driven badly out of whack.” -John Edwards

Being a supporter of the FairTax, I find the wording in this sentence very intriguing (Vote for Mike Huckabee).

In The Communist Manifesto Marx points out the need for a heavy progressive or graduated income tax, much like what Edwards presents. There is a reason some people make more money than others, they have at one point or another made conscious decisions that allowed them the opportunity for a greater income. Why should we take more from them than from other people. Now, I do understand tax breaks for the middle class may be a way to increase the ability of the common man to support his family, or the single mother to have a better life. However, we can't expect that money to come from people who put themselves in a position to be wealthy. This is America. Everyone wants to be treated the same racially and ethically, so why not monetarily. Granted, the tax system is not perfect, but redistribution of wealth is not the solution. If you are a family or individual that falls at the low income level I recommend you do some research and then get out and support the FairTax instead of voting for John Edwards.

What Edwards must do to win: This section will be filled with insight for future posts, however writing here this week would be a waste of my time. He can't win.

Prediction: Edwards will be out of the race within three weeks (officially).

I apologize for not writing objectively for this candidate I just couldn't bring myself to do it....I will try harder in the future...except the posts on Clinton and Huckabee.

I did not say that I agree with everything that he has said, but overall I believe he is the best candidate for the job at this point. Much more to come on Monday. Let's not get sour because, to use your words, "your boy," doesn't have a prayer. Pardon the pun.

    Huckabee doesn't stand a chance!?!?!?
Chances are he'll win. If the American people haven't the common sense to vote Republican this election, then I almost wish it upon them to elect Hillary, or Obama and bare the outcome. Not only would our country turn into a laughing stock, but I'd be afraid everytime something didn't go right for Hillary, she'd pitch another fit, and Noah would have to build another ark.

I'm not 100% sure who you were directing that comment at but I think you are misunderstanding mine. I think Mike Huckabee has an outstanding chance to win the primary. If you are a huckabee fan I salute you. Let me finish by saying that I completely agree with your comment. Stay tuned for this weeks Politics with Esch: Mike Huckabee

    "In The Communist Manifesto Marx..."

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. This is America. We don't have Communists. We have center-left and center-right catch-all parties. If one party freaks out and goes too far either way, either the electorate or an obstructionist Senate minority or a Supreme Court comprised of the past will fix shit. Throwing around "communist" is so base, and no matter how well you say it, it's not applicable. A progressive tax system is not only hella old/traditional in this country; every advanced democracy in the world has a form of progressive taxation. It makes no sense to ask someone with $20 of disposable income per month to pay the same percentage as someone with $100,000 per month. Smell me?

No as a matter of fact I don't "smell" you. I'm not sure how much you know about the fair tax plan, however, it would make everyone pay the same amount of tax and still have enough money left over to live. Just because I have more money than you doesn't mean I should give it to you. To quote Huckabee last month, "It is not the purpose of government to prop people up from every poor decision they make." There is nothing good about taking money from families to support their wreckless neighbors who are defaulting mansions that they couldn't afford or maxing out their home equity and are now hurting financially. I'll finish this discussion Monday. Thanks for your input, our ability to disagree is what makes this country great!

Esch couldn't be more right. I despise the idea and those who promote it, that my hard working family should have to sacrifice greater portions of their income, in order to support slugs who lie about job searches and don't do a dimes work during the week. I don't have a problem supporting those in a financial crisis who are struggling to eat, BUT I do when I know that they aren't making responsible decisions that lead to this type of downfall. This is where the public is so misguided. People today think that they can get off scotch free doing nothing, and will still get by, and unfortunately, that is starting to be the case. Go Huck!
