how is denzel in training day a lower seed than denzel in american gangster

Because Denzel in Training Day wasn't a gangsta. He was just another smart thug posing as a cop. Plus he was on the run form the Russians. Denzel in American Gangster would never run from anybody (i.e.- the final scene).
