POLITICS WITH ESCH: John McCain

After a short one week sabbatical there is so much to say about the political world and so little space. I'm going to do my best to sum up the past week and a half as well as profile the GOP front runner, John McCain.

There have been a few big stories in the past few days. The most notable in my opinion is that Hillary Clinton has fired her campaign manager after Barack Obama essentially pulled even with her this past week. Barack has won nearly every democratic contest in the past two weeks. Who did Hillary hire? It comes as no surprise to me that she hires Maggie Williams, an African-American woman who will no doubt strengthen the number of black votes coming Hillary's way. A demographic that she desperately needs to cut into if she is to beat Obama.

On the GOP side of the fence, Mitt Romney has called it quits. He says that it was for the good of the party and that he couldn't let his campaign be an aide to terrorism. Meaning that if he continues, the Dems will win the White House and immediately our foreign policy will suffer. I'm not sure how much merit there is in that statement but one thing is for sure, Mitt Romney does not lack self-confidence. Huckabee on the other hand will not quit. Trailing by 500 some odd delegates he must win around 85 percent of the remaining delegates to win the nomination. So who is the front runner? A foot soldier in the Reagan revolution, John McCain (Sen. McCain has used that phrase exactly 3,647 times in his campaign thus far).

                                                                      John McCain

Political Affiliation: Democ.....I mean Republican
Age: 71
Family: Cindy (wife), seven children
Home State: Arizona
Current Status in Primary (R): 1st, by a landslide
Campaign Slogan: Straight Talk Express

Overview:

It seemed early in the race that John McCain was all but out of the race for the GOP nomination. The "experts" said that the race was between Romney and Giuliani. The same Giuliani that said he had the other candidates right where he wanted them after Iowa and New Hampshire, but it turns out you really can win by, get this, WINNING. So here he is in mid-February with the huge lead in the Republican primary and still does not have the support of the more conservative voters. Why? Because John McCain is not a republican!!! His voting record is not conservative and his immigration policy is something like come on over (illegally), we'll give you everything that you need, and in some cases more than legit citizens have. As his mother said in an interview on C-Span (she is a young 96 years of age), the party is going to have to plug it's nose and accept him as the nominee.

McCain's Big Issues:

Iraq:

As we know John McCain was a foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution. As fate may have it he was also a foot soldier in Vietnam. McCain spent 5 years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam after his plane was shot down over the country. His history of service in the armed forces and his stance on how we should defend this country is one of his only conservative views. He believes that we should commit more troops to Iraq, not set a timeline for getting our troops out. He also believes that our generals in charge should determine when it is safe to leave and also what they need to complete the mission, not some fancy politician in Washington. He has recently been bashed for saying that we should stay in Iraq for one hundred years if it takes that long.

Immigration:

McCain favors amnesty. He wants to grant citizenship to an estimated 12-20 million illegal aliens. In the words of Stewie Griffin, "What the hell man?" This makes absolutely no sense. I know you can feel it coming, here is my rant of the week. So we have a system in place that isn't so good. It takes a long time to get into this country legally. This does not make it right for people to flood our borders and come here illegally. Not only are they here, but they come here and have children which makes their children citizens. Fine, not the child's fault, but guess who pays for ALL of this in the long run. You and me. Out of our own pockets. These people come and take jobs. They will work for a nickel an hour and no bathroom breaks (thanks Will Hunting), and
they end up drawing out of a social security system that they never payed into, not to mention that because they are doing this crap we need yet another government department to patrol the borders and search for the illegals that are in the country. All of this costs money that we don't have. So McCain has a solution. They came here illegally so let's reward them with citizenship, problem solved.

Prediction:

This weeks prediction is bold considering the democrats have the country enthused with their speeches about change and all that junk. Remember you heard it here first, John McCain will be the next president of the United States of America.

Seriously why do people like him. He's gonna destroy our country even moreso on 2 fronts. First from inside by letting all these illegals in and paying them with money they didn't contribute to and we don't have. Second, he doesn't want to pull out of any war. He basically snapped from the torture. He hates Japs with a passion. Say we do finish up in Iraq in like 2 years. He's gonna wanna go into Venezula next. He will make our foreign policy even worse than it already is. Wow seriously what's the appeal here? Because I can't see why people are voting for him.

I think its a conspiracy. The Democrats have liberals posing as Republicans throughout the U.S.

    Best Case Scenario:
Hilary vs. McCain so that I have no choice but to move to Canada!

    Worst Case Scenario:
Huckabee runs as an Independent and gives me hope.
