Weekend At A Glance (Feb. 22-24)

Friday:

Vantage Point
-I've been pretty excited about this movie for a while now. Not only because it had a great preview, but because it officially kickstarts the beginning of a 5-month run of hugely anticipated movie releases. The preview was damn good, even though it gave away the main plot twist of a Presidential clone, which still grinds my gears writing about it. It should be a good action flick with my favorite movie style; twists. This should be the movie you choose if you can only pick one this weekend.

Be Kind Rewind
-I don't know yet how it will be, but I have to go. I love Jack Black. Mos Def has enough credibility with me from his past performances. But the premise of the movie intrigues me, since it's basically exactly what I've been doing with some movies recently.

The Signal

-I guess I have to see it. Nobody knows about The Signal. People rarely hear the buzz about low-budget indie films that hit it big at Sundance, but this is one of them. Everybody seems to love it. A flick about brutal murders caused by some mind-altering electronic malfunction (I think). But I'm interested because it is shot by three different directors, split up into three perspectives of the same event. I like it. Rumor has it, The Signal should have a pretty strong cult following.

Charlie Bartlett

-I'm on the bubble about whether I see the movie in theaters or just wait to see it on DVD. I like the idea, but with 3 other movies I'd rather see first, it may get pushed off the ledge. Typically I enjoy Robert Downey's movies. Also, it's an original idea stemming off the troubling problem of kid's using prescription drugs. Or something like that.

1 vs. 100, 8:00 pm, NBC
-The early 90's are back. Not only will you get host Bob Saget, but also the Baywatch hottie Nicole Eggert. Either way, it's the season finale of a game show I've grown to really enjoy. This and Deal Or No Deal are my favorites.

Washington Wizards vs. Cleveland Cavaliers, 8:00 pm, ESPN
-The new look Cavs should be debuting their new big guy in Ben Wallace. Wally Szczerbiak will be there too. Normally I don't watch the NBA unless the Heat are playing, but I'm interested.

Boston Celtics vs. Phoenix Suns, 10:30 pm, ESPN
-Again, I'm not a huge NBA fan, but I know a good game when I see it. On one hand you got Shaq, aka The Big Cactus. The other side has the amazing Celtics team. Two great playoff-caliber squads that could very well meet again when it really matters.

Saturday:

NFL Scouting Combine, all day, NFL Network
-If you like the NFL or NCAA, you've got nothing to do, and you have the NFL Network, it would be worth while for you to watch at least some of this. It's basically a day long case study on the insane abilities of college athletes.

#1 Memphis vs. #2 Tennessee, 9:00 pm, ESPN
-If you watch one thing other than the Oscars on this list, it has to be this game. Rarely does a #1 team play the #2 in any sport. But even more rare are those two teams in the same state, and rivals at that. It just hardly ever happens, so when it does, expect fireworks.

Saturday Night Live, 11:30 pm, NBC
-Finally, SNL is back after the long writer's strike. I'm a bit disappointed by the former SNL star Tina Fey as host, since that's kind of a cop out in my opinion. But she can be funny. Her, those glasses, and her scar. Let's get Peyton back! I don't care if his brother is the famous one. That's only going to last until game 1 next season when he throws 4 picks and 1 TD.

Sunday:

The 80th Academy Awards (Oscars), 8:30 pm, ABC

-I can't frickin' wait! Oscar preview Saturday afternoon.

Sunday extras: Family Guy is a repeat
