First Days

So we're three days in and it's been a hectic start. Allow me to catch you up.

Sunday:


5:00 pm — Check in to the team hotel.
6:00-9:00 pm — Body analysis testing. You may ask, "What the hell does that mean?" First we fill out a bunch of medical questionnaires. Have-you-had-a-tumor-type stuff. Then the guinea pig process begins. Imagine trying to get 75 or so players to complete 10 different tests before it gets too late. It floods over into the following day usually, but most people get it done. I got most of mine done. Height and weight and leg strength and other stuff. It's a complicated process, but it's an important one for the training staff as well as the strength/conditioning staff. They get an evaluation of where each player is at in comparison to a year ago.

Monday:

7:00 am — Blood and urine test. No, not at the same time (unless you're really sick, of course). This usually takes a while.
8:30 am — Breakfast
9:00 am — Finish physical examinations
10:00 am - 12:30 pm — Relax and get some lunch (I watched Gone Baby Gone on my iPod)
12:30-1:15 pm — Media relations meeting. This was awesome because they showed us footage of bad interviews like my personal favorite, Kellen Winslow's "I'm a solder!"
1:50 pm — Warrior Run! Timed 850 yard run. The highlight of spring training (if by highlight, you mean the OFFICIAL end to the offseason)
2:30 pm — go home and pass out

Tuesday:

8:00 am — breakfast
9:45 am — all pitcher's stretch
10:00 am - 12:00 pm — Pitcher's Fielding Practice (to be known from now on as PFPs)
Repeat every day until March 14th when games begin.

Looks like I'm going to have bullpen sessions every other day starting tomorrow. I've shared enough with you now. I'll catch you back up when the time is right. In the meantime, sit back and check back for TV, movie, and sports stuff. And maybe some books here and there. I'm thinking about translating my favorite Shakespeare works in Microsoft Word and "publishing" them on my website for the 2 or 3 people that actually care.
