Update On My Life: still watching movies
It's been a little while since I've written and boy have I lost a lot of readers. That sucks. Well, hopefully I can get back into the bloggin' swing of things. The internet in the hotel we are staying at during spring training is probably equivalent to the Slowskie's internet. So, let's dive back into my thrilling life. Zippa-dee-doo.
Baseball- With 10 days left of spring training, I've had a few outings on the field. So far, I've been moved to the bullpen from my usual role as a starter. I've been playing this game "competitively" for about 15 of my 22 years alive now and never have I been a reliever yet. Sure, in college I would close out a couple games when it was my day to throw a bullpen and typically I did fine, but this is the real deal now. And I'd be lying if said I wasn't kind of excited about it. Starting is great, don't get me wrong. I'm the type that schedules his life out and likes it that way. Being a starter you have a 5 day week basically. Now, I could pitch any day. The running changes all the time. It's just different. It's still pitching, yes, but it's as close to changing position as you can get as a pitcher. But again, I'm excited. You get an automatic adrenaline boost when you come in as a closer and typically I succeed on the mound when I am at that level of intensity. Get me overly relaxed and I tend to lose that focus. Anyway, nothing is guaranteed as more cuts will be made with the following days and more people's dreams will be shattered by the sheer cutthroatiness (yea, it's not a word, so what!?) of minor league baseball. I think I've done my part, though, and come to the field every day pitching the best I possibly can when I'm on the mound. My velocity still has to catch up, but I'm throwing strikes and getting lots of groundouts. Not much more you can do. More on my status when things happen.
Movies- Watching Into The Wild right now. I really like it so far, but boy is this as hippie as a movie can get. The other day I watched a John Woo classic entitled Hard Boiled. If you like action and awesome fighting (non-kung fu) get this movie! It's in Chinese, but who cares. The great movie season begins March 28th and I'm getting pretty pumped. Drillbit Taylor comes out this weekend, but that looks just dumb. If you ask me (and by reading this, you are), Owen Wilson is only as funny as the people surrounding him. For example: hilarious in Wedding Crashers, horrible in You, Me, and Dupree. Chalk this one down as not funny. In happier news, 21 comes out March 28th and I'll be seeing that the first moment I get. Not only was I a huge fan of the true story, but I'm in love with the idea of dramatizing it to make a great movie. Keep in mind that it is INSPIRED by the true story, not BASED on it. Big difference. I'll get my Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) fix in by seeing Run Fatboy Run. Stop Loss looks like an intriguing film and I've always been a Ryan Phillippe fan. He picks great roles and always performs them well. Although I'm still not bought on the idea of Channing Tatum being a good actor. He's 2nd worst behind the one and only Hayden Christensen. That's my movie agenda there.
NCAA March Madness- I'm no college basketball guru, but I like to think I know enough about it to get a good bracket. Like most, I found it very difficult to pick upsets. Although I have mostly higher seeds advancing, I've still got some decent upsets. Since I turned my bracket in and forget to note my picks (I'll get them tomorrow) I don't remember most. But I do have Xavier in the Sweet 16 after beating Duke (most are calling me an idiot for that). Also, I love Georgetown in the Final Four. My championship game is UCLA over UNC. Most of all, I may be the only person I know who has Miami beating St. Mary's. What do you want me to do? I practically bleed orange and green and I never took a class there for crying out loud. Of course, they're get lit up by my other Final Four attendee, Texas. That's all I got for you there.
Other Notes- Terrelle Pryor is an idiot for picking those Ohio State Hairless Nuts over Michigan. Hmm, let's see. Program built for you with no starting quarterback vs. sweater vests and bad nicknames like Beanie. Haha, truthfully I don't care. as long as my Canes have the #1 recruiting class (which they do) I'm happy.
More updates and blogs to come. I'll get back into it. Please come back. We/I miss you.

Great follow-up on what's been going on duing spring training, Mike. Hope all goes well as a reliever or as a starter-just keep plugging away. Please keep me posted where they send you.
And don't forget about the University of Memphis. They could go all the way....

I had UNC and UCLA going to the finals as well, but I have UNC winning it all. I hated 'Into The Wild', probably because I hated the main character- despite loving Emile Hirsch's performance.

Hey Mike, is it looking like Kinston is where you'll start out at this year?
