The Best 1-on-1 Fight Scenes Ever
Let me lay down the law. There are some rules to this list.
-No boxing movies
-No martial arts movies
-No true stories
-No comics
10) Commando: Get to da chopppaaaaa!!! Ahnold just had to make this list somewhere, right? Actually, this is 1 of 2 appearances by the governor. Although this fight is a bit cheesy at times, it always gets me fired up. The villain just spews hate and it makes me want to see that pipe go through his chest over and over again. But in the end, I think John Matrix's one-liner after the killing move earns it a spot on the top 10.
9) Monty Python and the Holy Grail: This may be the worst fight in terms of competition, but definitely the most fun to watch. The best is that the entire movie is like this and I could probably watch it 3 times a day forever and still enjoy my life.
8) Happy Gilmore: The price is wrong, bitch!
7) The Matrix: I know Kung Fu. I love this scene, as should you. And if you don't, you must have never seen it. So just watch it.
6) Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark: Nothing needs to be said because this is why Indy is the best. Two more weeks!
5) Terminator 2: One of the most exciting 10 minute fights I've seen. Actually, now that I think about it, I've never seen a 10-minute fight. Or a fight at all for that matter. The relentlessness of both fighters to never quit is awe-inspiring. On top of that, the T-1000 could be one of my top 5 favorite villains. Watching him regenerate in this clip brings back about as much nostalgia as a set of Pogs. Yea, I went there.
4) Matrix Revolutions: Neo Anderson and Agent Smith have a long, long history. The two have been going at it ever since Neo set foot in the Matrix. Always a great matchup of superb skill, the culmination of everything they've been fighting for as individuals is brought to you in the third installment of the trilogy. A lot have said the third installment was a terrible movie. Sure, it wasn't the best of the three, but it was far from a bad movie. Watch all three in a row, like all trilogies are built to be watched, and I promise you will change your mind. Hate it or love it, but this fight scene makes the entire thing worth watching. It is as relentless as it is just plain sweet.
3) Gladiator: Commodus and Maximus finally get their head-to-head battle. Right when Maximus told Commodus that his time will come you knew this fight was a guarantee. The classic good vs. bad fight. Sure, good will prevail as it almost always does, but what separates this fight from the others is knowing what it took to get to this point. I'm pretty sure I still root like hell for Maximus to rip Commodus' head off.
2) Darth Vader vs. Luke Skywalker: Of all the battles to choose from, the toughest decision was which Star Wars fracas to pick. Even though it was 2-on-1, the Darth Maul brawl always tops my list. The final fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan in Revenge of the Sith was intense and as meaningful as any, but it lacked the wow factor I had hoped. Even the final fight between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker was great, but it was less of a fight than a conclusion. No, this is the ultimate one-on-one. Not only does it go on for quite a while, but the ultimate importance of this fight would prove to be the reason it makes the list. This fight not only affected the eventual ending to the saga, but the entire portrayal of episodes 1-3. Plus, it was Darth's first chance to show his ability to fight, even though I still say he moves like he's wearing 4 casts. Oh wait, he is.
1) Troy (Achilles vs. Hector): My favorite fight in movie history. One on one, that is. Not only does the music get me going, but the fact that I could easily see myself rooting for both fighters. Of course, Achilles is so badass that going against him would be like betting on Mariano Rivera to throw a changeup with 2 strikes. Just plain stupid. It took a freak arrow shot from a moron's bow to kill the guy! My favorite move is easily the spear on top of the shield by Achilles.
Bonus Fight!!!! Achilles vs. Boagrius: This just defines the word badass.
