Congratulations to The Dark Knight!

Like Mark McGwire's reign as home run king, The Dark Knight dethroned Spider-Man 3's short-lived grasp on the all-time opening weekend box office. I had my reservations on what type of money TDK would pull in. Although I had supreme confidence in the type of movie it would be, I didn't know exactly what kind of response the film would generate. I feel like it's my own movie I'm so proud. Here are the numbers for you...

Opening Day US Midnight Screenings: $18,500,000 (not including 3 am & 6 am showings) (previous record: Star Wars Episode 3 @ $16,900,000)

Opening Day US: $67,850,000 (previous record: Spider-Man 3 @ $59,841,919)

Opening Weekend US: $158,411,483 (previous record: Spider-Man 3 @ $151,116,516...next is Pirates of the Caribbean 3 @ $135,634,554)

All-Time Record For Total Box Office US: Titanic @ $600,788,188 (2nd is the original Star Wars @ $460,998,007)

After only one weekend, TDK is at #158 on the all-time total US box office. While Titanic has a dominating stranglehold on that list with $600 million, I do see a chance for TDK to pass Star Wars ($460 mil) for #2.

And what about IMDb??? The Dark Knight is flat out dominating the Top 250 list. Although many movies quickly stir up the Top 250 list, they rapidly fall apart. I don't think that's going to happen here. The Godfather has always been #1 with a 9.1 rating. Well, TDK has been steady at 9.7 and an easy top spot.
