Top 10 Movie Sequels of All-Time
In light of the great single movie I've ever seen, I got to thinking about the best sequels in movie history. Without further ado...
#10) Silence Of The Lambs
As great as this movie is, most people don't realize it is technically a sequel to Manhunter. Those casual moviegoers probably haven't seen Michael Mann's extremely underrated original which stars Brain Cox as Hannibal Lecter. If you are a fan of the character, I highly suggest you rent or buy this one. The more recent Red Dragon is actually a remake of Manhunter. I don't really need to say anything about Silence Of The Lambs. The only reason it falls to #10 is because I'm still not completely convinced it is a true sequel.
#9) Wayne's World 2
The first installment was funny and all, but they really opened up in the sequel. If anything, the Jurassic Park spoof scene is what makes WW2 a classic for me. Basically, the entire movie is a bunch of strung together movie spoof using Wayne and Garth.
#8) Superman 2
Although Superman is a badass superhero, I've never really gotten into the movies. Terence Stamp and General Zod is one of the iconic performances of the 80's and one of the better villains of the 20th century.
#7) Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
#6) Lord Of The Rings 2: The Two Towers
Never got into Lord Of The Rings, but I've seen them all. And compared to the first one, this is a vast improvement. It is a great movie that fulfills all the first left you hoping to see and doesn't disappoint in its execution of the massive war sequence.
#5) Matrix Reloaded
Many will disagree with me putting the Matrix sequel here, but I've seen it a handful of times and it only gets better. The Matrix was one of the most important movies of all time. Not only was it philosophical and cool, but it did more for the industry than most any movie ever has. Having said that, the sequel is better. Neo is in full force and everybody gets a piece of the action. The highway chase scene is as brilliant as it is long.
#4) The Empire Strikes Back
The second Star Wars film has the most memorable quote is movie history in, "No Luke, I am your father." Even though the entire franchise is based around this one line, it stands the test of time and continues to be the most shocking revelation in movie plot history.
#3) Spider-Man 2
You don't have to be a huge Spider-Man fan to respect how great the 2nd movie turned out. Doc Ock was a great villain, sure. But what did it for me was the plot. As Peter Parker battles with his own self-doubt and living in the city, Spider-Man battles even tougher villains. I love watching Harry Osborn (James Franco) slowly become a villain and Willem Dafoe's small cameo is bone-chilling. Not to mention, this is one of my favorite movie previews ever.
#2) Terminator 2
Arguably the most technologically advanced movie ever. The T-1000 may be the coolest villain, literally, as he is made of nitrogen. Schwarzeneggar is great as usual at being an emotionless killing machine. Watch the Terminator trilogy and then tell me this isn't one of the best sequels ever made.
#1) The Dark Knight

#7) Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
If you've never seen this movie and you claim to be a fan of action, you must see Road Warrior. It is just packed with explosions and guns and murder and crazy fighting. Oh, and Mel Gibson during his prime is pretty fun to watch.
